If I am going to give this blog thing a legitimate chance, I will have to show enough discipline to post on a daily basis. This strategy will have one of two results. Either I will be forced to actually compose something worthwhile, or I will have page after page of inane garbage.
Where do they find the people that compete on television game shows? You would think there would be some kind of try out or other filtering process that would weed out the illiterate and just plain stupid. Even a random sampling of the population would produce a brighter bunch than I regularly see on television. It is almost as if people are intentionally selected from the shallow end of the gene pool.
Maybe it is the same train wreck mentality that makes American Idol so popular. Talentless scrubs are showcased singing off-key and performing choreography more akin to seizures than any discernible dance. Millions of viewers tune in to laugh at the unfortunate souls who were never loved enough to be told they cannot sing. Could it be that we derive secret pleasure from the pain of others?
Maybe television producers intentionally put people in a position to make fools of themselves hoping they can catch the embarrassing act on camera. Maybe the reason we tune in is so that our own egos can receive a boost from the embarrassing follies of others. After all, we ALL think we would do much better if WE were the ones calling out letters to Vanna White.
